Roatan Volunteer Pediatric Clinic This non-profit public clinic is open to any and all children; it is located within the Public Hospital of Roatan, one of the Bay Islands of Honduras. The experience is primarily outpatient, though volunteers perform all hospital newborn discharge exams, and can also be involved in both inpatient and emergency room pediatric care. The clinic is open year round, with individual volunteers starting rotations at variable times-- a typical team consists of a volunteer attending, resident, and undergraduate student, together with a local Honduran general practitioner in the position of "pediatric fellow." We are searching for pediatric attending volunteers and third year pediatric residents for 4 week or longer rotations. We will also occasionally accept family practice and emergency medicine physicians, provided that he/she has a strong interest in pediatrics. Application and position availability are year round. Global Healing provides private housing and medical evacuation insurance to all physician volunteers. Attending volunteers also have airfare covered, along with a small stipend for meals, if desired. Housing in West End includes a kitchenette; grocery store is within walking distance; multiple restaurants catering to the backpacking crowd are available nearby. The patient population is primarily Spanish speaking (60-70%); English is the second language. Spanish language skill is NOT required. Student interns (both medical and undergarduate) should apply separately through the Roatan Clinical and Public Health Internship (RCPHI) affiliated with Stanford University. http://rcphi.beagooddoctor.org/ Global Healing also runs volunteer projects in Armenia (blood bank) and the Republic of Georgia (pediatric and adult cardiac surgery, cardiology, pediatric surgery, neonatal intensive care, blood bank).
